Facts about Caring for Marmosets as Pets

If exotic animals for pets sounds like a great idea to you, then you’d surely already know about the growing number of marmoset monkeys being domesticated. If you choose to get a marmoset though, know that behind those adorable eyes and cute little monkey paws is a responsibility you must accept and take seriously. Here are a few helpful tips that should allow you to better care for your pet:
Marmoset monkeys are quite social creatures, so they will demand much of your time. In a nutshell, caring for a marmoset is a commitment. If you don’t have enough time to spend with your new pet though, you could always find a mate for it, as long as you don’t just leave him alone in a cage for hours a day.
If there is one thing you absolutely need to have in your marmoset cage, its toys, and lots of it. Give him plenty of things to play and occupy time with, otherwise, he might get aggressive and destructive, or deeply depressed. Aside from this of course, you should regularly clean the cage to keep him from getting ill.
You should keep your marmoset on a rotating diet. While there are commercially produced marmoset food around, these critters can easily get bored with the same food over and over, so be sure to add some fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as eggs and cooked fish every now and then.
